Let me tell you one thing...I love vacations.
I love the relaxing, laziness of knowing that I can sleep as late as I'd like, that I don't have to cook dinner and that being a bum is a-okay. To me vacations are peaceful, fun, relaxing and a nice get away...usually anyway.
Hubs and I decided a few weeks back that we needed a little getaway. Though there isn't a whole lot to do here in Wisco (if you ask me anyway) we do live about two hours away from the "Water park Capital of the World"
aka Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
The Dells is known for a few different things when it comes to waterparks:
Largest outdoor water park in the U.S.A, largest indoor water park in the U.S.A, and America's largest water and theme park resort. It is a pretty incredible place to visit especially when it's the perfect place for a little weekend getaway.
We've stayed at numerous different resorts in the area but decided on
The Wilderness Resort for this trip. We'd never been there but both love the log cabin style so we thought we'd give it a try.
And we'll NEVER go back!
But we'll get around to why that is...
We headed down Friday after work for what was supposed to be a wonderful weekend getaway and early birthday treat for myself. We arrived Friday and checked in rather quickly. Our room was adorable and had a patio which overlooked a bit of a woods area. By that time we where tired (after a day of work and 2+ hours in the car) so we decided that eating was priority. We headed to what we thought would be a fun restaurant, Marley's. And here's when everything went down hill. The service was terrible, the food was gross (the lettuce in my salad was wilty and warm and the cucumbers where bitter and rotten), and there where tons of obnoxious people talking loudly about inappropriate "drunken, slutty times". We headed back to the resort after dinner and decided to wander around and check it out. We figured out where the three water parks where and which restaurant we wanted to try for breakfast. We headed back to the room to sleep so we could be up early the next day for fun and relaxation!
I'm not sure what parents are thinking these days but there where children running around all hours of the night. Not even kidding you. There was kids running and screaming above us and in the halls at 2am. Which also meant no sleep for hubs and I making us downright crabby. We had a delicious breakfast and hit up the lazy river and some of the water slides. After getting sick of that we decided to leave the resort and hit the town. We shopped for a bit, wandered around, and then headed to the casino to (cross our fingers) rake in some $$.
We played there for a few hours & acame out ahead...by 5 whole bucks. Haha!
We headed back to the resort then, swam in the waterparks for awhile, and planed to have supper there but after making our way through stumbling drunk people, tons of screaming children and wall to wall people just standing around we decided to get away from the resort again. We headed to Moosejaw for dinner, which is one of my favorite restaurants in the Dells! We had a pizza and beer bread for dinner and hubs sampled some of their home brewed beers.
As much as we dreaded the noise of the resort we headed back, watched some movies in our room and headed to sleep. We awoke to noise early yesterday morning and just decided to leave and head home as we where terribly sick of the annoying screaming people that occupied every inch of that place.
So home we came. We unpacked, did laundry and watched the Packer's stomp on the Lions. We spent the rest of the day being lazy and it was wonderful unlike the rest of our weekend. Needless to say, what was supposed to be a nice relaxing weekend away & ended up being a weekend of stress and annoyance. For that reason we won't be going back. I think we'll avoid places where hundreds of children and family congregate for the time being. We newlywed like our peace, quite and relaxation times!
Though there was some fun involved in our weekend it wasn't quite as relaxing and wonderful as we'd hoped. Maybe that means we just need to take another vacation soon??
Vegas anyone ;)

Don't you love that? Ughh. This reminds me of the hotel we stayed in for our honeymoon. It was sort of the same deal. Our honeymoon was "Senior Week". So, the kids were a little older, but still just as disrespectful.. Hope your weekend got better watching the game!
ReplyDeleteMarley's is quite the place. We went there for my sister's bachelorette party. I don't think I would ever go there as a resteraunt, but when it's a club/bar at night its pretty crazy! Funny enough we also stayed at the Wilderness that night lol
