Another month. How can it be? This month was full of challenges and many melt downs (mostly for momma!). We're working on getting back on schedule and with a new Zantac prescription we're finally seeing our smiley boy again! These boys are SUCH a blessing and we're loving every minute, even the chaotic ones.
Two Months As Of 05.18.16
Update: It's funny to me how much our two boys are alike. Clearly they look quite a lot alike but their medical situations are similar now as well! We'd started noticing some signs of silent reflux (much like Garrett had) so I made an appointment for Gannon to see the doctor. After weighing him she was more convinced that he was over eating and that was causing us some issues. But with a little convincing she agreed to a trial of Zantac as I really felt it was reflux. Now, if you know me you know I'm all about health, wellness and doing it the natural way (with medications) but Gannon was SO miserable and our days where getting to be the exact same (MISERABLE!) so I knew we needed to do something. We started Zantac this past Saturday and our little guy is back to his smiley ways! I'm hoping we won't be needing the Zantac for long but we certainly couldn't handle the constant (literally) crying! So, for now we're doing 1.5mL of Zantac twice a day.
Stats: Our little Gannon is proving that he won't be known as "little" for long! At the eight week appointment I mentioned above he weighed in at a whopping 11lbs 15ozs! The doctor is slightly concerned at the massive jump in weight and suggested we feed him a little less. Yeah, tell my growing boy's tummy to wait when he's hungry! He goes in tomorrow for his two month appointment so I'll have to update with those official stats once we've got them!
Features: His hair seems a bit thinner these days and maybe a tad lighter but he still has a whole head of it! His eyes are blue and I'm loving them! His dimple in his right cheek literally makes my heart skip a beat and he's got the most adorable smile ever. With his jump in weight he's really getting a big ole double chin and some good thigh rolls. I love his little pudge.
Sleep: Still no real pattern but we're working on it! He gets up with us for the day around 6am. He definitely needs to be asleep by 9am because he turns into a bear really fast but he loves to fight that nap which has made 9am a dreadful time in this house. He'll nap anywhere between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours for that nap. It's getting nicer outside and that actually is Garrett's morning outside time so many days I'll let him snooze outside, in his stroller or car seat. He seems to take FAR better naps outside as strange as that is. We come inside around 11am then for lunch and he's usually awake by then. I feed Garrett and we head upstairs around 12:45(ish). I breastfeed Gannon then while I sit with Garrett. He normally fall asleep after that and will nap another 1-2 hours. He's up then until after dinner falling asleep between 7-8pm most nights.
Eating: According to the pedi we're over feeding him but I'm telling you, this boy is a pig. He eats about every 2-3 hours whether it be breastfeeding or a bottle. With Garrett we ended up starting formula around the two month mark which disappointed me beyond belief. I had great hopes that I'd have better luck this time but sadly we haven't. We started formula far sooner with Gannon. It was extremely difficult to keep up with breastfeeding every 1-2 hours while chasing a toddler and even after breastfeeding on both sides Gannon still seemed hungry. Now with the Zantac we've been doing 1 bottle in the morning and one in the evening. Most days he gets 1-2 more in between. Other than that I breastfeed him each time he wakes at night and in between bottles. There are some times he'll feed off each side, still appear hungry and eat another 2-4 ounces from a bottle. Piggy! I try to pump but lately there's nothing to pump and if there is it's generally only 1-2 ounces. I've been using Fenugreek and Fennel essential oil to help without much luck.
Diapering: Size one, Pamper's Swaddlers & they're fitting fine!
Clothing: We're into the 0-3 months and 3 month clothing although some of it is still a bit large. I'm glad it's (finally!) warming up because most of my 0-3 months and 3 months clothes are short sleeves and for warmer weather.
Social: Talk about a smiley little boy! When he first gets up in the morning he is so, SO happy, cooing and smiling. He is beyond alert these days and spends most of his day eyes wide open, taking in his surrounding. He loves to coo and make little grunts and when he's able to find it, his fist is a favorite to suck on. I make sure to get him a few rounds of tummy time through out the day and he's got really good strength in his neck and spends that time lifting his head and looking from side to side. He'll play on the play mat for short periods but isn't really into that for long periods of time. He likes to be a part of the crowd and is not content to be alone for more than a minute or two. He prefers to be held as much as possible making getting anything done a challenge. He likes his swing when he's sleeping and doesn't like his bouncer seat one bit. He'll nap in his Rock & Play during the day but night time is spent snuggled next to momma if I want to get any sleep.
Likes: Watching the trees out the windows and fans, big brother! Eating and cuddling! He loves his baths and just fusses a bit with getting undressed and then dressed. He loves his big brother and is constantly following him/his noise. If Garrett is around I'm pretty much like chopped liver.
Dislikes: Having his hair dried, getting undressed/dresses, getting into his car seat (he's fine once we start to move though, thankfully!), being alone in a room.
