Five On Friday

May 30, 2014

Hey, hey party people! Cheers to the weekend huh?

- One - Cheers to a four day weekend! Off work yesterday, today & the weekend and it is so glorious! Yesterday Garrett and I played until we couldn't play anymore and then soaked up some sunshine. After dinner we took a little wagon ride around the neighborhood which is one of Garrett's favorite things to do. It's so bittersweet to see him watching everything going on, waving at cars & squealing with excitement. He's just growing so darn fast! Plus, I swear he's an Eric Church mini me...

Today my sister is coming for a visit and then I might try and find some good rummage sales! Tomorrow I've got a hair appointment and I'm realizing that it will be one of my first times leaving Garrett for something un-work related. The rest of the day will be spent prepping for our open house on Sunday. Here's hoping we get loads of traffic & they all love our house!

- Two - Yesterday I actually got a little free time to myself so I tried out the Jamberry nail samples that I received from a friend. I was pleasantly surprised with how quick and easy the application process was! Now the true test is to see if they withstand the gallons of hand sanitizer I use in a week!
 - Three - With our house being done we've had so much time on our hands in the evenings that we've really gotten to slow down and spend some time together. It's a strange thing for us as we've been go-go busy for so long! It's nice to be able to get the baby to bed and then actually have some time with my husband. Lately it's been spent working on the house, catching up on our DVR or scouring the internet for our next house.

- Four - I don't think I've shared yet on the blog with everything else that's going on but my baby sister is getting married! They've set a date for May 2015 and I'll be a bridesmaid & Garrett will be the ring bearer! I'm beyond excited to  see him all dressed up!
- Five - I have to say that the dinner I made last night was a total win. Chicken Florentine with spinach & sqaush along with a summer-y inspired salad. Romaine with dried cranberries, fresh strawberries, crumbled feta, bacon bits and topped with raspberry vinaigrette. So delicious! And for dessert? Chocolate extreme brownies! Belly was so full!

So, there ya have it loves. Five of my very favorite things on this lovely, sunshiny Friday! Have a great weekend!

Juicy Peach Margarita

May 29, 2014

It's really starting to feel like summer here in Wisco. And I'm loving every freaking moment of it. The sunshine. The bird chirps. The windows open. The smell of brats & burgers on the grill! I love all of it. Something else I'm loving?? Peach margaritas! So tasty and refreshing!

Juicy Peach Margarita
  2 ounces Grand Marnier
1 1/2 ounces Tequila
2 ounces lime juice
2 1/2 ounces peach simple syrup
lime + chopped peaches for garnish
salt + sugar for the rim

Place ice in glass. Combine marnier, tequila, peach simple syrup & lime juice in shaker and blend. Pour over ice. Garnish with lime and chopped peaches.

The best mistake I ever made … dating some guys in my past that I shouldn't have given the time of day to. Cheaters, abusers, alcoholics...you name it I seemed to have dated it. {Not my proudest moments for sure!}

From this mistake, I learned … that I'm worth so much more. I nearly was engaged to a man that was verbally and emotionally abusive. It's a little know tid bit of my past that nearly no one knows. I was in that controlling relationship for over two years and one day I woke up & thought to myself "What are you doing Stormy? You're not one bit happy. No person has the right to do/say the things he's doing/saying to you" I broke up with him that very day. It was a hard realization to come to after hearing for years that "I was nothing without him" and that "No one else would ever want me". He'd gotten in my head and convinced me that I needed him in my life...until I woke up and decided that I didn't. After that I dated a few different guys...nothing serious and only for short whiles. I was known for meeting a guy, going out for three months and dumping him like a hot potato. It wasn't that I was doing scandalous things it was just that I wasn't about to settle for what I'd just freed myself of. So, I'd give them three months. If I saw repetitive features that I didn't care for I said "adios" and moved on.

When I’m anxious, I tell myself … Breathe! It's not uncommon for me to be wandering around work saying "Breathe Stormy. Breathe" I probably look like a total freak show but whatever keeps me from going angry at that obnoxious patient I consider a win!

All I really want to do is …sell our home and buy a new one. I also wouldn't argue about packing up my little family and heading out for a couple weeks. We need a vacation!

Summertime Playlist

May 27, 2014

Well happy back to reality day for everyone! It's always hard to jump back into the rat race after an extended weekend isn't it? I spent my Memorial Day working. So instead of colorful drinks, sunshine & a good BBQ. I was swamped in infiltrated IV's, hospice referrals & pt's that needed to be cleared before transferring to pysch. For those of you non-medical speaking readers...I was swamped & it was craze! Oh well, I live through the whole 38 hours of fun!

I figure most of you are dreading staring at your offices walls today and wish you where still kicking it in the sun. No fear! I'm here to help! I collected a list of some of my favorite tunes that are sure to be blasted around these parts this summer. Five On Friday

May 23, 2014

Happy Friday party people, happy Friday! I'm incredibly glad to have off work today as it's my working weekend & also my holiday to work meaning I'll work the next three days. Nothing like putting in 38+ hour in three days right? Anywho, today I'm linking up with Christina, Darci, April & Natosha {holy lot of ladies to link with} for Five On Friday!

- One -  It was such a lovely day outside yesterday! It looks like we're having a little glimpse of summer weather here in Wisco as it's set to be in the mid 70's all week. I certainly can't complain about that! I spent last night helping husband on our garage, mowing the lawn, watering plants & even managed to sit down and relax for a couple minutes. It was pretty stinking fabulous!
- Two - We've got an open house scheduled for this Sunday! I'm beyond nervous & seriously hope we get lots of traffic through! We're going to check out a home tonight that our realtor really feels we'll love. There's a large part of me that is hesitant to fall in love with a new house when I don't know how long it's going to take to get our sold. Too much stress.

- Three - Thanks to Steph I'm obsessing over vacationing at Staniel Cay! I think my husband was ready to duct tape my mouth shut yesterday as it was all I could talk about. But really..how gorg is this photo? #takemethere
- Four - I've taken a little break from Etsy Extravaganza but don't worry it will reappear! I'm gathering some more fabulous shops to bring your attention too! Next week I'll introduce you to SewWise & her fabulous travel and organizing gear. The week after that you'll get to meet Zeke from Home State Apparel. There will be chances to win something from both shops so stay tuned!

- Five- I'm looking forward to fun things this summer. I can't wait for it to be warm enough to enjoy afternoons in my parents pool. Cookouts. Hanging outside with Garrett. Trips to the park. Visiting the zoo. Popsicles. Bonfires. Ahh! Bring on summer! What fun things are you looking forward to this summer?

Skillet Lasagna

May 22, 2014

I am constantly, constantly on the look out for new recipes that are both easy & delicious! Lasagna is one of my favorite meals and while it's easy to put together I don't always have the time to put it together nor do I want to wait for it to cook. So, when I stumbled upon this recipe I knew it'd be a new favorite in our home
You'll Need These Ingredients:
10 ounces pasta
1 pound lean ground beef

1 can diced tomatoes
2 Tablespoons Olive oil
1 (24 ounce) jar Spaghetti sauce

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning mix
1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

Follow These Steps:
Boil noodles in a large pot of water, according to package directions. Drain water.

Meanwhile, cook ground beef in a large skillet until browned. Drain grease. Add cooked noodles to ground beef and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Stir together.

Add spaghetti sauce, garlic powder, italian seasoning, mozzarella cheese and diced tomatoes to the beef and noodles. Carefully stir together to combine.

Turn heat to low, and continue to cook and stir until mixture is thoroughly heated. About 10 minutes.

And enjoy!

May 21, 2014

My favorite recipe is... Oh! I've shared so many with my readers through out the years! I'm still addicted to these recipes though: cake batter cookies, one pan chicken alfredo, whiskey glazed carrots, drunkin apples, smores bars, perfection poundcake, santa hat party mix {a tradition I started three years ago} and hot cocoa brownies. I have TONS more where those came from but those are some of my all time favorites. Also, don't judge on the fact that just about every single one of those is terrible for me. I know this already ;)

I believe in... Happiness. Chasing your dreams. Never settling. Laughter. That good friends are plentiful but great friends are a rare find. That everyone deserves to be heard. That I am worth it. Forgiveness. That money is a lousy way of keeping score. That family will always, always trump my career. That sleep is a precious gift, cherish it people! The power of sunshine on my face. Goodness. That a baby's first cry is the most precious gift. In marriage. That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being. That there is the perfect someone out there for everyone. In fairness. The fact that it's taken me a long time to become the person I want to be, and that I'm not there yet. And, that our background & circumstances may have influenced who we are but we are responsible for who we become.
I need to set boundaries... with people's expectation of myself. So many times I'm more worried about pleasing everyone else that I forget to stop and think of myself. Everyone else ends up before me on my list. It's evident in the fact that I haven't gotten a solid night sleep in over nine months but my husband is often well rested. It's evident when I take on an admission at work while I'm already drowning with my current load. It's evident when I'm constantly afraid to ask for help in worries that it may inconvenience someone. While I'm a firm believer of putting others before yourself I have to work on finding that happy balance.

I began living when... I realized that my happiness is important. For so many years I worked hard to satisfy other people. I stayed in relationships because I was afraid to hurt the other person. I took blame for things that weren't my fault. I covered up others wrong doings. The day I realized that my happiness was important was the day I ended a 2+ year relationship/soon-to-be engagement. I'd been in a toxic relationship for far too long and finally decided that I wanted to chase the things I wanted in life. It was the day I felt like I was really able to breath. To feel the sunshine. To hear the birds. To feel alive. To feel happiness. And since then my life has been blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I have a husband that makes my heart go pitter-patter and a son that brings a joy to my life that I've never known. Life is good. Happiness is good.

The Whole World Stops & Stares For Awhile

May 19, 2014

Oh Monday, how I loathe you. After a cram packed weekend I am glad to have today off though to relax a bit. I am however dragging tush after some {adorable} little boy kept me up all night long...literally. Garrett went down for the night around 8pm last night. He woke up then at 9:30 but fell back asleep after a couple minutes. 10:30pm rolled around and he woke up doing this shrilly cry. Scared me to death. Nothing I seemed to do helped. We walked. We rocked. I sang. We bounced. The shrill lasted for nearly three hours and drove me nuts. I finally got to crawl into bed around 2am...just to be woken up at 4am, 5am and then again at 7:30am. He finally just went down for a nap and I'm hoping it will be a nice long one. Never in my life did I think I'd get a child that hated sleep so much. It's been nine months since I've gotten a decent night's rest. Nine long, emotional, challenging, hard months.

Anyhow, enough of my pity party huh? This weekend overall was a great one! The sun was out, the weather was nice and there was big things happening here at the M household!

Friday I worked and it was a crazy insane day! I had two detox pt's {such fun} with blood alcohol levels 3.5 and 6 times the legal limit. I also had a patient that has been on our floor for quite awhile. She's had a complicated hospital stay which resulted in an ICU stay, a ventilator and complication on top of complication. The family is having great difficulty dealing with everything which has resulted in lots of anger and frustration. Having that taken out on me all day really did a number and I came home rather crabby & worn out.

Saturday we woke early to work on house stuff. A railing in the back entry, grouting tile in said entry, more siding on the garage, deep cleaning, sorting & organizing all for the open house on Sunday. We attended my aunts wedding then later that day. It was nice to catch a little break and time away! We've been pouring ourselves into the house lately and some fun was just what we needed!

Sunday was a much anticipated, anxiety driven day for us. It was the first open house showing for our home. We toured a few houses during it and found a couple that have good potential but weren't exactely what we where looking for. After that we came home and realized that we really had nothing we had to get done for the rest of the day. For the last few months we've been rushing everything to get home and work on the house and yesterday we didn't have to. So, we rented a few movies and chilled on the couch all afternoon & evening. It was a perfect ending to the weekend!

And now it's back to the rat race. Work Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday {I may be dead by next week...five 12+ hour shifts in a week...ugh}. Private showing of the house on Tuesday. Cross your fingers for us if you wouldn't mind. We could really use some luck!

Pits & Peaks {Round Five}

May 16, 2014

So I had this brilliant idea to start a weekly link up and it lasted a whole three weeks or so. Way to go Stormy, way to go. That exact thought popped into my mind at 4am this morning when my alarm went off. I'm being over productive for the morning and thought I'd throw my weekly thoughts together quick.

Pits & Peaks

Pit: This week has been all sorts of crazy insane prepping for the house to officially be on the market and our first open house, which is this Sunday. We thought we'd have a little time to putz around once it was listed and finish some last minute little projects but life just doesn't allow for "putz" time here at the M household! The sign went up yesterday. Our home is all over the internet. Open house on Sunday. As if that wasn't overwhelming enough we got a call that an agent wanted to set up a private showing of our house for her clients. This was before it was even officially listed. Said realtor works with our realtor and caught a glimpse of the photos & thought that her clients "would love it". As excited as we are we're also very anxious about this whole deal. Anyone have some good advice about selling your home & buying a new? I don't deal well with the unknown...

Peak: After this long day I have a three day weekend! Whoo! I'm amped about it! Tomorrow is my aunts wedding, Sunday is our open house and I've decided that Monday Garrett and I will sit around in our jammies...all day long! Through this whole house process I feel like I'm not giving him near the attention he deserves. It doesn't help that he's clearly teething again and wants to be in mommy's arm 24/7. Worst mom of the year award right here. #fail

Pit: Did I meantion 4am alarms already?

Peak: Garrett fell asleep last night at 7:30pm! So early for him. He was up briefly at 9pm but went back to sleep within about 5 minutes or so. Best part?! He's still sleeping! That's right he slept through the night! This may not seem like a huge deal given that he is 8.5 months old but it's literally about the 4th or 5th time he's done this since he's been born! HUGE deal for this mommy! Now if only he'd keep it up. And, it would be wonderful if I wasn't about to go wake him up to haul him outside in this {cold} spring weather. Sorry baby!

Finish This {Round Three}

May 15, 2014

A lesson I learned from my mom... to never give up. Though life wasn't always sunshine and roses growing up she never gave up. She did her best to make sure we had a wonderful childhood and was always planning fun activities and past times for us. She honestly went above and beyond to provide for us. I'll forever be thankful for everything she did and only hope I can be half the mother to Garrett that she was to my siblings & I.

To burn calories, I... go to work. The average nurse walks about 4 miles in a 12 hour shift & I don't doubt that my average is right up there too! Times that by three shifts in a week and I'm averaging about 12 miles of walking a week..and that's just while at work! It's also said that a nurse lifts an average of 1.8 tons a day! Whew! No wonder my back is killing me when I get home! I've also been doing a little momma & me workout using Garrett as my weight for lifting :) Let me tell you...holding a 23lb weight up while squatting is a challenge! Anyone else use their baby as a weight?

The best hair day was... it's a tie between this day and this day.  Every other day of my life my hair is a dreadful train wreck. I seriously need to hire a live-in stylist.

I am grateful for... my life. Though there have been times of hurt, pain & let down I'm thankful for it all. I have an incredible, funny husband and the most goofy, adorable son. I love them both to pieces. I have parents who are supportive and two siblings who I love. I am just so thankful for all of the blessings I've been given. Life is good.

First Mother's Day

May 14, 2014

To say that this past weekend rocked in an understatement. It was peaceful. It was relaxing & the weather was amazing! While we spent most of the weekend working on our garage and house we managed to sneak in a little time for ourselves too.

Saturday morning Garrett & I had a mad dose of cuddle time. Hubs headed out of town to run an Advocare booth so it was just little man and I for the morning. Later in the day my friend Amanda and her son, Kaeden came over. I always love seeing her as we've been friends since high school. And it's so much fun to see Kaeden interact with Garrett. My parents and brother also came over and dad helped on the garage. So, while the boys worked the girls sat around in the sunshine and chased after the kiddos. Perfect day.

Sunday was another day that started out with working on the garage. Hubs surprised me with cards from both him & Garrett {Garrett even "signed" his card for me} and some gorgeous earrings! They have gorgeous turquoise stones which remind me so much of Mexico & our honeymoon! When I mentioned that to my husband he beamed! That's just what he was going for! Later that day we met my in-laws, sister in law and three nephews for lunch. After that we headed to my parents house to visit for a little while. Then it was back home to work on more of the garage.

It definitely wasn't extravagant but sometimes that's for the better. I enjoyed the day and time with my lil' family just the same. It was a wonderful first mother's day!

20 Marriage Tips For Men

May 13, 2014

1. Never stop courting. Never stop dating. NEVER EVER take that woman for granted. When you asked her to marry you, you promised to be that man that would OWN HER HEART and to fiercely protect it. This is the most important and sacred treasure you will ever be entrusted with. SHE CHOSE YOU. Never forget that, and NEVER GET LAZY in your love.

2. Protect your own heart. Just as you committed to being the protector of her heart, you must guard your own with the same vigilance. Love yourself fully, love the world openly, but there is a special place in your heart where no one must enter except for your wife. Keep that space always ready to receive her and invite her in, and refuse to let anyone or anything else enter there.

3. Fall in love over and over again. You will constantly change. You’re not the same people you were when you got married, and in five years you will not be the same person you are today. Change will come, and in that you have to re-choose each other everyday. SHE DOESN’T HAVE TO STAY WITH YOU, and if you don’t take care of her heart, she may give that heart to someone else or seal you out completely, and you may never be able to get it back. Always fight to win her love just as you did when you were courting her.

4. Always see the best in her. Focus only on what you love. What you focus on will expand. If you focus on what bugs you, all you will see is reasons to be bugged. If you focus on what you love, you can’t help but be consumed by love. Focus to the point where you can no longer see anything but love, and you know without a doubt that you are the luckiest man on earth to be have this woman as your wife.

5. It’s not your job to change or fix her.
Your job is to love her as she is with no expectation of her ever changing. And if she changes, love what she becomes, whether it’s what you wanted or not.

6. Take full accountability for your own emotions.
It’s not your wife’s job to make you happy, and she CAN’T make you sad. You are responsible for finding your own happiness, and through that your joy will spill over into your relationship and your love.

7. Never blame your wife. If you get frustrated or angry at her, it is only because it is triggering something inside of YOU. They are YOUR emotions, and your responsibility. When you feel those feelings take time to get present and to look within and understand what it is inside of YOU that is asking to be healed. You were attracted to this woman because she was the person best suited to trigger all of your childhood wounds in the most painful way so that you could heal them… when you heal yourself, you will no longer be triggered by her, and you will wonder why you ever were.

8. Allow your woman to just be. When she’s sad or upset, it’s not your job to fix it, it’s your job to HOLD HER and let her know it’s ok. Let her know that you hear her, and that she’s important and that you are that pillar on which she can always lean. The feminine spirit is about change and emotion and like a storm her emotions will roll in and out, and as you remain strong and unjudging she will trust you and open her soul to you… DON’T RUN-AWAY WHEN SHE’S UPSET. Stand present and strong and let her know you aren’t going anywhere. Listen to what she is really saying behind the words and emotion.

9. Be silly. Don’t take yourself so damn seriously. Laugh. And make her laugh. Laughter makes everything else easier.

10. Fill her soul everyday. Learn her love languages and the specific ways that she feels important and validated and CHERISHED. Ask her to create a list of 10 THINGS that make her feel loved and memorize those things and make it a priority everyday to make her feel like a queen.

11. Be present. Give her not only your time, but your focus, your attention and your soul. Do whatever it takes to clear your head so that when you are with her you are fully WITH HER. Treat her as you would your most valuable client. She is.

12. Be willing to take her sexually, to carry her away in the power of your masculine presence, to consume her and devour her with your strength, and to penetrate her to the deepest levels of her soul. Let her melt into her feminine softness as she knows she can trust you fully.

13. Don’t be an idiot
. And don’t be afraid of being one either. You will make mistakes and so will she. Try not to make too big of mistakes, and learn from the ones you do make. You’re not supposed to be perfect, just try to not be too stupid.

14. Give her space. The woman is so good at giving and giving, and sometimes she will need to be reminded to take time to nurture herself. Sometimes she will need to fly from your branches to go and find what feeds her soul, and if you give her that space she will come back with new songs to sing…. (okay, getting a little too poetic here, but you get the point. Tell her to take time for herself, ESPECIALLY after you have kids. She needs that space to renew and get re-centered, and to find herself after she gets lost in serving you, the kids and the world.)

15. Be vulnerable. You don’t have to have it all together. Be willing to share your fears and feelings, and quick to acknowledge your mistakes.

16. Be fully transparent. If you want to have trust you must be willing to share EVERYTHING… Especially those things you don’t want to share. It takes courage to fully love, to fully open your heart and let her in when you don’t know i she will like what she finds… Part of that courage is allowing her to love you completely, your darkness as well as your light. DROP THE MASK… If you feel like you need to wear a mask around her, and show up perfect all the time, you will never experience the full dimension of what love can be.

17. Never stop growing together. The stagnant pond breeds malaria, the flowing stream is always fresh and cool. Atrophy is the natural process when you stop working a muscle, just as it is if you stop working on your relationship. Find common goals, dreams and visions to work towards.

18. Don’t worry about money. Money is a game, find ways to work together as a team to win it. It never helps when teammates fight. Figure out ways to leverage both persons strength to win.

19. Forgive immediately and focus on the future rather than carrying weight from the past. Don’t let your history hold you hostage. Holding onto past mistakes that either you or she makes, is like a heavy anchor to your marriage and will hold you back. FORGIVENESS IS FREEDOM. Cut the anchor loose and always choose love.

20. Always choose love. ALWAYS CHOOSE LOVE. In the end, this is the only advice you need. If this is the guiding principle through which all your choices is governed, there is nothing that will threaten the happiness of your marriage. Love will always endure.

In the end marriage isn’t about happily ever after. It’s about work. And a commitment to grow together and a willingness to continually invest in creating something that can endure eternity. Through that work, the happiness will come. Marriage is life, and it will bring ups and downs. Embracing all of the cycles and learning to learn from and love each experience will bring the strength and perspective to keep building, one brick at a time

It's Just Over When It's Over Ain't It Baby, Ain't It

May 12, 2014

I thought today we'd do a little catching up as I've been away for a little while. We'll just let the pictures do the talking...
1. Nothing like a good ole' pile of shingles in your driveway at 6am on a Saturday! Hubs, a good friend and my day busted tush and got the entire roof nearly replaced on our garage in preparation for selling.
2. Painting, painting, painting. It's all I did for a week. #overit
3. Filling out paperwork to sell our house really made me realize everything that we've redone and re-vamped on our house. It will be sad to leave all of our hard work but we're looking forward to a new place to make memories!
4. Garrett & I headed to a local garden center to pick up some flowers and he was obsessed with the fountains.
5. White grout=worst idea ever. We'll just leave it at that. I scrubbed and scrubbed for about three hours. I realize that it makes us sound like disgusting pigs when I say that but I promise my house is not dirty like that. It's just that white grout is impossible to keep sparkly white.
6. Planting flowers is good for the soul.
7. Peaceful mornings catching up on blogging while baby naps. A little cappi and doughnuts totally seal the deal. #blissful
8. I worked on some landscaping around the house. I dug out our hosta bed, divided them and replant them. Let me tell you...it's far easier to do all of that now than last time I tried at 30+ weeks pregnant. That was exhausting!
9. The house was photographed last Monday in preps for listing. I love looking through the photos! Here's hoping someone sees it online & wants to snatch it right up!
10. A little messy hair, wet hair, don't care kinda action. It was nearly 80* one day last week and we soaked that up! It felt amazing to feel some sunshine on my face!
11. My whole world <3
12. Garrett started crawling on Monday, the 5th. He almost instantly starting pulling himself up, standing and pulling everything down that he can reach. I had off Tuesday and was exhausted chasing him around! But I have to say that seeing his little crab butt standing in front of the window was one of the most precious sites ever.

Being Momma

May 10, 2014

I've wanted to be a mother since I can remember. I longed to hold my very own tiny creation in my arms admiring all the details of that little face. I longed to be there to soothe their tired cries. I longed to pick them up and dust off their knees when they fell to the ground. I longed to hear the tiny giggles come from those sweet lips. I longed to hear that quite "momma" from that tiny, adorable being. There where times when I wasn't sure I'd ever be a mom. Times of doubt. Times of pondering. Times of uncertainty.

It was because of those times though that on January 10th, 2013 my excitement soared through the sky when I saw that tiny positive sign on a home pregnancy test. Though I was nervous, scared and in panic mode my excitement always outweighed it all.

Since giving birth and watching Garrett grow these past eight months life has really changed. While it's not at all what it used to be that's okay. It's okay because it's incredibly better since his arrival. He brings a joy to my heart that is indescribable. He's amazing. He's perfect. And he's wonderfully mine. My thoughts on life, love, and happiness have changed vastly since the day I first said "hello" to him.

He has made me a better person.
He made me a mom.

Garrett,

Your smile makes a bad day better. Your kisses make sadness melt away. Your sweet innocent face gives me hope that there is still goodness in the world. Your feisty attitude reassures me that you'll never let someone hurt you. Your loving spirit tells me that your heart is as enormous as the sky. Your constant silly giggles let me know that you'll find joy in whatever the situation may be. Your hugs shoot straight to my heart. You are an incredible, one-of-a-kind blessing Garrett. There is never a single moment, in a single day that I am not grateful for you. The love I have for you is a love I'd never known. Thank you for making me a better person Garrett. Thank you for teaching me to seek the goodness in the world. That smiles can change the tone of a day. That silly giggles make everything alright. But most of all, thank you for making me a mom Garrett. I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

Love,
Momma

Garrett: Eight Months

May 8, 2014

Eight Months As Of 04.27.14

Update: Though I keep begging for time to slow down it doesn't seem as if that's ever going to happen. This has been a month of major growth and change. He's sitting up, army crawling, feeding himself at time & has two teeth popped through. I can't believe the things he's learned in the past month! He even had his very first diaper rash which broke momma's heart. One of his favorite things now is getting to sit like a big boy in the bathtub! He loves to splash and kick about and it is so much fun to watch! There also has been a few times I've let him sit in the cart while shopping big boy style. He loves to chew on the cart {thank GOD for sanitizing wipes!} and grab stuff and toss it in the cart. One day we came home with two packages of Goldfish crackers that I didn't intend to purchase. Garrett wasn't upset though. He loved slobbering on them!

He started crawling on Monday, May 5th. Steve and I where both home that day working on the house as they where coming to stage & photograph our home that evening. We'd called my parents to come keep an eye on Garrett while we hammered out some of the last minute projects. They where in the living room playing when my mom called out "Storm! Come here! He's crawling!" He'd been so close to crawling for about a month that I didn't really believe her at first. He was famous for getting so close and then face planting into the floor that I figured that's what he'd done again. Steve and I both ran into the living room quick and sure enough he was crawling right across the living room. It was so adorable because he'd get going and almost forget exactly how to crawl so he  was so wobbly! Since then, he's been unstoppable! He crawls everywhere! He turns the cable on & off. He ejects discs out of Steve's Ps3 {and then chews on them...opps}. He stands up next to the side tables, chairs, nightstands. He is on the move! It's 100% amusing and 110% exhausting!

Steve headed back to work full time at the beginning of this month so we interviewed an in-home babysitter. She was an older woman, with 20+ years experience. She stressed the learning aspect of her services {ABC's, numbers, colors} and seemed like she really knew & loved what she was doing. There was just something inside me though that felt unsettled about leaving my child with a complete stranger, more particularly her. I think that if Garrett was older I'd be more open to the idea because he'd be able to verbalize. At this point though it broke my heart to even consider it. Luckily, my parents where up for the challenge! They've been watching Garrett now on the days I work which I am incredibly grateful for!

Stats & Recent Appointment: Garrett doesn't see his pedi until he's nine months so measurements from home will have to do this month. Let me tell you though, I'm not promising these are accurate because our boy does not sit still. Length 30 inches. Weight to come once he sits still for more than 2.8 seconds.

Features: Daddy keeps trying to talk me into taking Garrett for his first hair cut but it's just not something I'm ready to do. I'm loving his long, soft {curly at times} locks. His eyes are still brown.

Teeth: The central incisor on the left side popped through on March 27th. We noticed when that one popped through that the central incisor on the right didn't seem far behind. That ended up popping through on April 9th. I really think that his top two are working on coming through now but I'm not 100% sure. He continues to chew on absolutely everything he can get his hands on though.

Sleep: Ahh the dreaded sleep topic. We continue to struggle with this. Garrett has been pretty consistent at going to sleep around 9pm but there was a few days this week when he started his "I'm ready for bed" moan around 7pm. That lead to a few earlier bedtimes and he actually did pretty well with those. Most nights he'd up around 1am-2am for a short while and goes back down to sleep until about 4am-5am. He's usually pretty much up for the day at that point. There are some nights when he'll be up at 11pm, 1am and 4am still though. Crossing my fingers that those night become less & less. Naps are usually pretty consistent during the day, depending on what time he got up. He'll usually nap around 9am, 1pm & 4pm-for about one hour each.

Eating: We're continuing to do a mix of baby led weaning and purees. Garrett is doing fabulous with feeding himself & he's been an amusing edition to our dinner table! A couple nights ago I'd cut up potatoes & broccoli for him and while he kept making faces with every bite he shoveled it all right in! He continues to love sweet potatoes and anything remotely sweet. He really is a good eater though and will eat just about anything we give him. He doesn't like peas or green beans yet though so we've gotten tricky and mixed them in with his other foods-score one for momma & daddy!

Diapering: Size four. Sticking exclusively with Target brand to save some $$$

Clothing: I have a select {very small handful} few things that are 9 months that still fit him, otherwise he's wearing all 12 months. I actually washed his 18 month clothes the other day and he's started wearing those as well. I'm hoping it warms up here in Wisco because I have some adorable 12 & 18 month shorts & outfits that I'd love for him to wear!

Social: I've made it my goal to come up with some things to get him out of the house & around some other children! I loved taking him to story time on Tuesdays but I've been working every single Tuesday so that hasn't worked out. I'm looking into swimming lessons for him as I really feel like he'd love that. All in all though he loves people! He loves to watch them and will often times let someone hold him as long as momma is nearby!

Nicknames: Monkey, monkey butt, squirt, chunk, little love, Mr. Magoo

Likes: Eating, bath time, his jumper, watching the world, music {especially Eric Church & Jessie James Decker}, being in his stroller as long as mommy is running as quick as possible, being tickled, anything electronic {cell phone, remotes, Ipads}, playing peekabo.

Dislikes: Being too warm, sitting still {mainly in his car seat or stroller}, having his hair dried, getting his face wiped off, having to wait for food, getting dressed.

Momma: Though I've been shy to talk about my experiences with postpartum "baby blues"/depression lately it seems like those thoughts and feelings are creeping back up. I've been working through them slowly but with everything on my plate right now it's been a lot to handle.

New This Month:
- Crawling & getting into everything!
- Second tooth
- Joining us at the dinner table! Garrett really seems to enjoy being a part of everything we do and it's fun to make a point to actually have "family dinners"
- Baths in the big tub! He's sitting so well in the big tub and loves all the room to splash and "swim" about! I'd been looking for a ring to put in the tub and couldn't find one that I liked so we decided against & it's worked out just fine.
- Big boy car seat! Garrett just wasn't happy in his little car seat and we where having more and more difficulty getting him in and out of it so we purchased his first big boy car seat this week! He loves it already! He's able to move more and see what's going on which in his book is a total win!
- Waving! He's started waving when people say "hi" and "bye"

Looking Forward To:
- Warmer weather and being able to spend some more time outside. I'm looking forward to some afternoons at the park and soaking up some sunshine! Plus, we've got a red wagon that is begging for some walks!
- A family wedding we have next weekend! I'm so excited to get my boys all dressed up! Keep your eyes open for some family photos!
- Swimming in my parents pool this summer! Garrett loves the water so I'm thinking he'll be our little swimming bug once the pool is ready!

My dear sweet Garrett boy,

Has it really been eight whole months since we welcomed you into this world? I close my eyes and can picture holding you for the first time like it was just yesterday. Covered in post birth goriness you opened your eyes to this big ole' world for the first time. I instantly fell in love with you Garrett. This month has been an incredible month for you. One full of growth and changes galore! I can not believe the things you've accomplished in just one short month! While I'm loving watching you grow and learn there's a large part of me that aches that you are no longer my helpless little baby who was content to cuddle on my chest all day. You are now in love with exploring, testing your limits and watching every little thing that goes on around you. It's amazing though, to watch the world from your eyes. Everything is so innocent, so new. It really makes mommy stop and pay attention to the world. You are by far my greatest gift and I'll be forever thankful for you. Know that mommy loves you an incredible amount my little love.

Hugs & kisses,
Momma

This month {as you'll see below} he also decided there was no chance that I'd be getting a photo with him sitting next to his owl. We tried and tried but that poor owl got tossed off the couch so many times that day!
