Soaking In Summer

The saying goes that you get wiser with age. I'm not sure I believe that though. I feel like so many of the things we "learn" as we age are already inside of us, sometimes tucked down deep. I feel like instead of getting "wiser" we just learn to become more in tune with ourselves, more in love with ourselves. This is something I'm slowly learning. Slowly forcing myself to accept. Others have always come before me. Their happiness. Their hopes. Their desires. Always before me. These days I'm really forcing myself to stand up for my own happiness, my own wants & desires. It's uncomfortable but I continue on. Here's some of my favorite ways to encourage self love:

I have a hard time leaving things "as is" when it comes to houses. I'm currently living in my second ever home after purchasing, completely renovating & selling the first. The plan when we moved in here about three years ago was to have this be our "forever home". That thought lasted about a year when I had the entire house revamped in my mind and needed a new challenge. You see, revamping in my mind is far easier than doing the actual revamp...especially when you work 50ish hours at your day job, run a business of 300+ people, teach classes and have two small children. Yeah, the actual reno gets tough.
We're diy-ers to the core so all of the work is completed with our very own hands (with the help of family and friends sometimes!). Needless, to say. Slowly, slowly this big ole' county home is (and will!) become what I dream of it! Currently our laundry room is underway and as always...a simple project always turns into more.
Here's some inspiration:
Light, bright & airy is my hope. Replacing the old, worn out carpet with tile and shiplap to cover the nasty wallpaper border (ick!). I'm getting excited to show you the final project when it's completed...in like two more years :)

I'm finding myself a bit conflicted as I age. You see, I've always been a home body. Content in leggings & moccasins curled up with hot tea in hand. That's bliss to me. With each passing year I'm finding this deep desire to travel & see the world bubbling up...slowly unearthing itself right in the center of my being.
I try to shush it.
I try to convince myself that I don't need to see all ends of the Earth.
And I fail. Miserably fail every single time. I've began giving into these thoughts. These dreams. I'm planning trips to fulfill that desire and it feels so good. While I don't fully know what is in store for me in the future I get this voice in my head saying "you're right were you're meant to be". This last September I won a trip to Utah. I want sure what to think about Utah but boy, oh boy did I fall in love with it there! More on that trip later though! As for this year, this year my travel bag shall runneth over.
I've got a new mindset that this was made for me to see. Together, with my boys I'm determined to make that happen. So, here's to 2018 - the year of travel for the M family!
You might be wondering where we'll be this year? Here's what's on the dockit thus far...
Lake Elmo, MN - I'm headed here for a class for work. It'll be a short trip for certain but I'd still love to find a cozy coffee shop and great place for eats. Anyone have suggestions? I'm learning that Lake Elmo is tiny so I'm hoping to find somewhere cool & unique on the drive there/home.
Top Sail Island, NC - Family vaca! I'm stoked to take my little somewhere new this year as I love seeing places for the first time. Top Sail seems relaxed and GORGEOUS so I'm really looking forward to it! A house on the ocean, sipping coffee while the sunrises & searching shells and shark teeth...this one shall be great for memories!
Chicago, IL - Would you believe I've never visited Chi town?! I've been through multiple times but never actually went there, stayed & explored. So much for that! I have an oil conference booked in October and an going to try to squeeze in a lil' extra time to explore. Airbnb, the bean, good eats & a coffee shop I'm DYING to get too. I'll have a couple of my oily girls along too which will make this extra fun! I'm looking at a family weekend too with the kiddos...Is love to take them to The Shedd & such!
South Padre Island - This one won't happen until early 2019 but I'm super pumped! This will be a "dirty thirty" trio with about seven of my besties. These girls & I have been friends since high school and have never all taken a trip together. We're bound to cause a lil' commotion but that's all part of the fun right?!
Anyone rose planning some trips this year? Have suggestions on some more fun places we can head? I'd love to hear them.

Tap. Tap.
Is this thing on?!
I'm learning as I age that sometimes my best laid plans are just that…plans. They never blossom off the page, become fruitful or happen the way my mind thinks they might.
They stay there. Stuck. Unaccomplished.
Getting older and more forgotten with each passing moment. And, truth be told it drives me absolutely nuts. Having a mind that creates so many ideas but a clock and life that just doesn’t allow for most of them. Though another life lesson I'm learning is that I simply can't do it all. There is no possible way I can be everywhere I want to be, do everything I want to do…my lists are just too big.
This space is one of those pushed aside, back burn sort of things. I keep meaning to get back. I have thoughts, words and memories I want to get on paper. Details of the lives of my littles to document. Time needed to be spent to clear my mind. But, life keeps on getting busier and busier each day.
I'm hoping to straighten that out in the new year. Get better organized. Cut the excess. Focus on what really, really needs to be. Spend more time on my kids. Spend more time on me. Pick this little space up & carry on.
Simply put...I want to be. Just be.
I want to retrain myself to be in the moment. Not worrying about oils, my day job, what I'm coming for dinner next week, the 17 piles of laundry thrown about or if I've paid the mortgage yet. Though, I probably should make sure that gets done, at the very, very least.

Essential Oils.
They've been a game changer and a huge life blessing in our household. Which is slightly funny as our beginning with them was really just a result of me having some extra cash that felt like it was burning a hole in my pocket.
I had to spend it. I just had to.
A Premium Starter Kit, $170ish dollars & two weeks later this box arrived on our steps. "Young Living" it read on the side. I'll be honest and say that I left it sit on my counter for 24 hours before I actually opened it. You see, I'd ran into one of our Chaplin at work (when I worked Cardiac/Medical/Oncology at the hospital) and she was chatting essential oils. I'd heard of them, yes but was a skeptic through and through...not that being skeptical was a new trait for me. Ha! She chatted them up a bit to me, planted a little seed and I spent a while researching thereafter. I have a cousin in another big name oil company and naturally figured supporting her would be the right thing to do. But when I started researching I stumbled upon Seed to Seal (learn more here) and knew that I had to have the best of the best.
Enter that box on our steps.
I opened it with a throbbing in my head (migraine survivor here!) as I was quite used to. I'd read that Peppermint could be beneficial. Opened the bottle, took a deep breath in & nearly burned my nose hairs off (that sounds so nasty!). What the hell were people thinking using these potent bottles of minty overload?!
No fear.
I wasn't giving up yet. I put my finger over the opening, tipped the bottle a bit and ran my finger down each of my temples. I set out unpacking the box & reading some of the material included. It was some 10 minutes later when I looked up, wide eyed & said to my husband "Holy shit. My head!" 10 minutes of minty goodness and I felt like a brand new woman. Not a complaint in the world.
It was then that I knew these bottles would do serious things in our lives.
Since then our oil usage has grown. Our team of oily friends has grown. Our income has grown. Our health is better. Our sleep is better. Our moods are better. Overall, we are better.
