Here's to 25

November 22, 2013

Today is my 25th {eeks} birthday! I spent the morning soaking up the baby cuddles and adorable smiles which is my favorite past time ever. This afternoon I spent some time shopping with my sister & even bought myself something. Everything else was for Garrett though! :) Now babes is napping & momma is catching up on blogging while we wait for daddy to get home! :) I have to say quick though...the 24th year of my life was pretty darn amazing! Enjoying be newlyweds, getting pregnant and giving birth to the most amazing little boy are just some of the wonderful highlights. Year 25 sure has some big boots to fill! ;)

Thanks so much to everyone that remembered & sent birthday wishes! You all are too sweet!
And now I'm off to enjoy the rest of the day!

Catch Up & Friday Letters

Well hello there Friday. Where in the world did you come from? Returning to work made this week FLY right by and with 80 million things to do I'm just now getting around to blogging. Holy slacker right?

In the mean time though I thought I'd stop in and catch you all up! Speaking of returning to work. I worked Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. My days really didn't go all that bad minus Wednesday when a patient tried to punch me out....other than that it was all good ;) Saturday was a rough day, being the 1st day away from Garrett but knowing he was home with daddy made it easier for sure! I think the day was probably more rough on Garrett and the hubs as it was the first time they where home alone together for more than 15 minutes. Poor Garrett wasn't used to the change in faces and care and spent most of the day crying. Sunday however went MUCH better! Tuesday they even went to the library for story time and shopping at Fleet Farm.

The hospital has also been a little bit low census wise lately so I've actually been sent home everyday 4 hours early, on standby. While it's nice getting home from work early it's not going to be so nice pay check wise. We're already loosing money having the hubs off work to be with Garrett so having me drop 16 hours in a week is going to be rough! Ekks!

Wednesday night Steve & I attend the regional "Great Beginnings" Advocare meeting. We definitely learned some new stuff and hearing so many wonderful testimonials really amped our passion and drive to help others accomplish their wishes and dreams. We heard testimonials of people dropping 100+ pounds. Testimonials of people running across America to raise $235,000 for charities. Testimonials of a man with $38 dollars to his name now making $30,000+ a month. All of these happened with Advocare. Average American people being able to really make a change in their life and accomplish even their wildest dreams. I mean really who wouldn't want to drop un-needed pounds, give a ton of $$ to charity and still have a monthly paycheck of what some people make in a year? Sign.Me.Up. If you're interested at all in Advocare please email me! Our team is growing and we're looking to gain more discount customers! Who knows...maybe you could be our next weight loss, healthy living, run across America, make a lot of money success story!

And now for a few Friday Letters.

Dear Wisconsin: Waking up to a white world was not on my birthday wishlist! Ick, ick, ick! Dear Thanksgiving: The fact that I work on Thanksgiving is kind of a bummer! Missing the turkey, stuffing, potatoes and other tasty foods will stink for sure! Dear Christmas: You are coming up FAR quicker than I'd like. Don't get me wrong...I love Christmas but I have yet to start my shopping! And I'm trying to figure out how I'll have time to put up all five of my trees! Dear Garrett: You are growing so quickly {as I'm constantly saying} but you're also becoming SO much fun! It's wonderful to wake up in the morning and get tons of adorable smiles! It's also SO much fun to hear you "talking" more! You are developing quite the personality and it's amazing to see you grow and develop! Dear Sweet Tooth: Let's take it easy mmkay? This time of the year is terrible with all the candy and goodies around! I'm a sucker for Chocolate Crinkle Cookies and Angelfood candy...neither of which I need to consume! Dear Body: I don't know what it is with your constant junk food cravings lately! I've been making MUCH healthier meal choices and sticking with Advocare's meal replacement shakes when I don't have the time to make healthy choices but all I'm craving is junk! Redic! Here's to perseverance and determination!

Friday Letters

November 15, 2013

Dear Friday, November 15th: I'm unsure how I feel about you Friday. Though so many people wish & wish for Fridays to get here this is one particular Friday that I could have done without coming. Today is my last day of maternity leave. My last day at home with my precious baby with no other cares to be had. Tomorrow I return back to work. Full time, 12 hour shifts. When I found out I was pregnant I approached my bosses about switching to 12 hour shifts {I was doing 8's} when returning back from maternity leave. This way instead of working 5-6 days a week I could work 3, though they are longer days I know. Hubs and I discussed it and while I'd be away longer each day I work it ends up saving us on childcare because he can be home with Garrett in the evenings after he is done with work. And his work offers 18 weeks of FMLA leave...all unpaid. Though it's going to be incredibly tough money wise {especially right before the holidays} we're taking advantage of it because it means that Garrett will be home in our care, longer. This is another reason why the 12 hour shifts worked out better. Hubs will take off work the days that I work so he can be home for Garrett. We figure that buys us a few more months of not having to worry about childcare. And, it will be easier for me knowing that Garrett is home, safe with his daddy! Not here's hoping we can in fact afford to do this as long as we'd like too! :/

Dear Winter: I'm not ready for you yet. The cold is already starting to wear on me & it's just going to get colder! It's currently 36* which is warmer than it's been in days! This weekend it's going to be in the 60's {figures since I have to work!} which will probably be some of the last nice days of the year.

Dear Garrett: My precious baby boy! You are growing and changing so quickly that I can't believe my eyes! To think that you're going to be 12 weeks old already {on Tuesday} just blows my mind!

Dear Hubs: You are amazing! The hard work you do for this family is something I will be forever grateful for! Thank you!

Dear Readers: I'd love to stay and share more but I hear my baby coo-ing in the other room & I'm soaking up the cuddles today! Happy weekending!

5 {More} Things You Might Not Know About Me

November 14, 2013

I've done posts similar to this in the past but because we're always changing and growing there's always new things about myself to share with you. So I figured I'd share them with you today {and give you a little obsessed with my child break}
1. I am a fa-reak when it comes to having $$ in the bank. Just ask my husband. When our bank account gets below a certain number I start worrying that we're about to be on the street sleeping under cardboard boxes. In all truth we're no where near being hobos...we have a nice little stash built up for times of need. I just like to worry about something I guess.

2. I love sweets. That might come as no surprise to you as I've shared plenty-o recipes for tasty sweets with y'all. I'll finish dinner and then go on a mad hunt for chocolate or candy because I feel like I need to end any food session with a sweet. #notagoodhabit

3. I drive 5 miles over the speed limit almost always. And I always wear my seat belt.

4. Though I love being a nurse I dream {frequently} of doing something else with my life. My real want was to be a teacher as I love children and I love watching them learn new things. Unfortunely the market for teaching jobs here in Wisco was crappy when I choose majors. Oh ya live & ya learn...

5. I love making new friends. It's so fun & exciting to meet new people and form new relationships which is a large part of why I love blogging so much!

100% Unique

November 13, 2013

11 weeks ago {plus 1 day to be exact} we welcomed a precious miracle into our lives. The most adorable, wonderful, stubborn, sweet, {smelly at times...sorry Garrett} amazing miracle. Since then our lives have constantly been changing! We're learning, adapting and praying through each and everyday. At 11 weeks {and one day} Garrett is just as inconsistent as he was when he was four days old. He still only sleeps about 5 hours a night on a goodnight with the longest stretch being 3 hours. His naps vary so much and some days he refuses them all together. And he still loves to eat...every hour on the hour! I had done loads of reading while pregnant to prepare myself as much as possible. I read about signs of illness. I read about sleep schedules I read about establishing routines. I read about feeding patterns as a baby ages. I read and read and read.
 And you know what?

I was/am still as unprepared to be a parent as ever! Though I have the knowledge of things I've read behind me my child is different from every other child out there. Our lives, our days and our parenting styles are vastly different from those we read about. At first I would get frustrated when things weren't as I'd read they'd be. I'd get frustrated reading when others say their babies eat every 3-4 hours when my ladies bits where begging for a break. I'd {really} get frustrated reading about babies the same age as mine who where sleeping through the night when I hadn't slept more than 3 hours a night in weeks. And to be honest I do still get frustrated reading/hearing those things. But the frustration isn't with Garrett or his habits...it's with myself.

We are each created to be 100% unique. Totally original and one of a kind. And that is a wonderful, beautiful thing. Being different than others is always something I've loved about myself. I'm not one to run out and by the newest trend {Phillip Lim for Target anyone?!?!}. I don't care if chevron is sooo over. My fashion sense is not that of a fancy-dancy fashion bloggers. And I'm totally okay with all of these things. So when I would read about babies who certainly seem "easier" than mine and become frustrated I'd also become angry at myself. Here I was getting upset because my baby wasn't sleeping like so & so's. My baby eats far more frequently than hers. I was getting upset because my baby wasn't like everyone else's...he was unique, different and totally one of a kind. Recently I stepped back and reminded myself of how wonderful it is that we're all different, all unique. In those thoughts I realized that though some days Garrett's sleep habits down right stink {most days} they are part of him...part of what makes him, him. Though he loves to eat every hour of the day {Literally. It's like boobs-out-breastfeeding-party all day long over here people} that just a part of him. And it's a part of him that's helping him to grow, develop & become strong.

So, in my permanent state of exhaustion I'm trying to remind myself to celebrate these things. The things that make Garrett who he is. My wonderful, sweet, loving and adorable son

Reading Is Dreaming With Open Eyes

November 12, 2013

The above describes me to a T! I have always been a reader and getting lost in a good book in one of my favorite past times! I can't tell you the number of times I got yelled at for bringing a book to the dinner table growing up! I don't get much time to read these days I still enjoy it when I get the chance. Reading is definitely something I want Garrett to grow to love so Ive been making sure to read him a couple books at least once a day. He seems to enjoy it already...looking at the pictures & the funny voices that mommy makes sure to do ;)

Today was story time at a local library so I packed up my lil' 11 week old and away we went! My mom is actually the librarian at said library so Garrett got in some grandma time as well, which I think they both loved. I'm hoping to make this a frequent thing as Garrett grows :)
Which brings me to a quick question...I'm looking for more great books to order for our home library. Any incredible suggestions on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas books are welcome!

House Chores & Packer Parties= A Weekend Wrap Up

November 11, 2013

Monday already?!?! How did that happen? As if Mondays weren't crappy enough this one is extra sucktacular for two reasons:

1: It's my LAST week of maternity leave. Seriously, where has the time gone?
2: There's fluffy white stuff falling from the sky...ahh yuck!

On the plus side I'm curled up on the couch under a pile of blankets, snoozy baby in my arms, cappi on the side table & I'm blogging. So, snow and impending return to work aside today might just end up being wonderful. Today we're going to talk about some other wonderful things. Starting with this weekend.

Saturday we spent the day around the house. Cleaning, organizing, and tackling an everlasting to-do list. My sister, Kaitlyn came over to hangout with Garrett while we cleaned & had a blast with my smiley little man. Anyone who knows me even slightly well knows that having a nice, clean house puts me in an instant good mood. Hubby was so amazing in helping & even deep cleaned the grout lines in our tile floors. Let me tell you something...I obviously love my husband dearly and am not afraid to say/show it but there's something about him lately that puts a little more spark in my sparkler. Seeing him cleaning, organizing, cooking AND spending time with our son has my little heart a beating! I think the saying is true...a man helping around the house truly is like porn for women ;)

Sunday was another great day. We planned up a little Packer party with some of our closest friends. And that brings me to something else I love...being surrounded by loved ones. While I adore peace and quite having six adults, three toddlers and a newborn in the house was just what I needed! We had lots of laughs (mainly in regards to the toddlers playing a few rounds of tackle football themselves), lots of good grilled food, and tons of fun. And though the Packers lost in the end it was still a wonderful day! :)
 {Stole from a friend}
There's a few other wonderful things I'd love to chat about as well today. That would be the fabulous lady on my sidebar: Sheryl. She is an incredible lady and I'd suggest you start following her if you don't already! I'd also suggest that you join the party on my sidebar as I'm looking for some more incredible ladies to add in over there. Interested in swapping buttons? I'd love to have you!

Next I would love to know what you ladies love most about Life's A Dance. While I'm fully aware that I've been distant lately I do plan on returning to blogging full time hopefully sooner rather than later. I'd love to get back to what I was doing...writing about a little bit of everything...life, being a wife & mom, recipes and DIY crafting too. With that said I'd like to know what you would like to see more of around these parts! Life's A Dance has been and always will be more of a lifestyle blog than any thing else. After all, I started it as a way to remember and document my life so as the years come I can look back at all these wonderful memories I've made. I never imagined I'd have 385+ readers following me through my nursing school journey, my engagement, wedding planning, getting married, being a newlywed, becoming a mom & the life of our precious son. I am incredibly blessed by "meeting" all of you and for your support, wisdom and encouragement you've given me through out the years!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Friday Letters

November 8, 2013

Dear Carters: Why must you make such adorable baby clothes? I visit your shop online and a whole lotta "Add to Cart" takes place. It's a good thing I have some self control {when it comes to anything but sweets & candy that is} and don't continue on to click "Checkout" every time. But seriously...the Christmas clothes?! Freaking adorable!

Dear Stormy: Take it easy on yourself! You are only one person and there's no reason for you to be super woman! Don't worry so much about the way you look, how un-fashionable your clothes are or putting 7 course dinners on the table each night. You have always been one to worry more about time with loved ones and just enjoying your life...get back to that.

Dear Advocare: Voom! Voom! It's good to have more people getting interested in you! For awhile it felt like we where treading water! If you {or someone you know} is interested in weight loss, body building, healthy living and/or making some extra $$ for your family let me know! We'd love to help you accomplish your goals!

Dear Work: One more week away from you! Everyone was sure that I'd miss you and be itching to come back but I'm totally not. While it will be nice to have some adult interaction I'd really be a-okay with the whole stay at home mom thing!

Dear Baby Bump: I miss you! I love having Garrett here for sure but this is a case where I'd like to "have my cake and eat it too". And no, that doesn't mean there's a Baby M #2 in the works...not yet anyway ;)

Dear Closet: Revamp yourself.

Ain't No Trash Digger

November 7, 2013

Garrett is actually napping in a place other than my arms today so naturally I thought "Great! I'll do some blogging today!" I logged on and it was if my mind was wiped clean suddenly. I have all of these ideas that I've been compiling for the past weeks to share with you guys and here I sit...staring at the blank page wracking my brain for something fun & entertaining to share with you.

Truth be told, I don't feel fun and entertaining today. I'm down in the dumps. Having a pity me day.

Why? Well that's something I'm trying to figure out for myself. I certainly have no reason to be a debbie downer...

I have a wonderful husband and the most adorable & perfect son. I have a fabulous family. I have clothes in my closest. I have food in my fridge. My house is a toasty 70 degrees. I have no reason to be down and out...but yet I am.

I think it's due to a few things:

First off: It's getting colder here in Wisconsin and as much as I love Christmas and the holiday season I don't love the cold or the fact that the sun sets at 4:37pm. It makes for short, dark days and I've always been a girl that thrives on warmth and sunshine.

Second: Hospital bills. Yikes! Thank goodness for insurance but getting bill after bill right before the holidays is starting to stress me out. Christmas this year will certainly have to be small and sweet!

Third: With Thanksgiving getting close I've been thinking a lot about the things I'm thankful for. And boy is my list long! Since having Garrett I've been more aware of the hate and sadness in the world and lately I can't help but to keep thinking about it. It scares me to send my child out into a world where so many believe it's okay to hurt and kill. It scares me to know that he might be teased or bullied. I look at his face of pureness and innocence and I just want it to stay that way forever. I wish that he would never have to know the hate, the evil and the coldness in the world.

And lastly: I'm headed back to work in nine days...NIVE days. Ugh! Where did these past {nearly} 12 weeks go?! I can't believe that my maternity leave is going to be over! When people tell you that time really flies and that your baby will grow quick they aren't-a-lyin! Garrett has changed SO much that I can't stand the thought of being away and missing something! He'll only be little for a short time and I'm heart broken that I can't stay with him and soak up every little coo and smile. :( 13+ hours is SO long to be away from my babes!

Sorry for being lame and un-fun today but today is a day for a truthful, from the heart post...even if it's not all gum drops and roses.

Garrett: Two Months

November 6, 2013

Two Months Old As Of 10.27.13

Update:  Two weeks or so ago we noticed that Garrett would make these loud hiccup noises, swallow and then began crying. It literally started out of the blue. The first few days I thought it was just a fluke thing but after three days I called the doctor and made an appointment to get him in. Being a nurse I was pretty sure he was suffering from some silent reflux as he never really spit anything up. It more or less came up, sat in his throat and went back down. We took him in and found that he did in fact have some silent reflux going on. His doctor started him on Zantac and while he hates the taste of the medication it really seems to be helping. While at that appointment I pointed out a bump we had noticed on his right clavicle. We noticed it when he was about two weeks old and when I called the office {then} to tell them about it they told me not to worry as it was "probably nothing". The doctor took a look and felt it when I showed it to her and appeared very worried. We where sent to have an immediate x-ray of it. Turns out little man fractured his clavicle {likely in birth} and they never caught it. I was incredibly sad to think that he may have been in pain and we never even noticed it :( Poor guy.

Stats & Recent Appointment: Garrett's last check up was his two month well baby check though we weren't able to get him in until November 4th, just before he turned 10 weeks old. His weight was 12lbs 13ozs (49%) and his length was 23.5inchs (56%) and his head circumference was 39.7cm (54%). His two month appointment was rough on momma! He was sleeping when we arrived and I felt terrible waking him up to be weighed and even worse about what was to come! He did great having his height and weight checked! Little man loves to be nakey every now and then! I laid him down when it came time for shots and he was smiling and cooing away! He had an oral vaccine first and was such a champ with that! When they did his shots the poor boy turned bright red instantly and started screaming like I've never heard before. Brought tons of tears to my eyes as well! Luckily they where really quick and I scooped him up! I nursed him right after and he would stop every now and then, look up at me with his teary eyes and sob. Talk about breaking my heart! We came home and cuddled on the couch where he'd fall asleep for awhile and then wake up for a short time to nurse and go back to sleep. His next appointment is his 4 month check...with more shots :( I think daddy is taking him to that one! Momma's heart can't handle that again!

Features: His hair is getting lighter for sure but he's kept all of it! Everywhere we go he attracts loads of attention with his full head of hair! I can't tell you the number of times I've heard "You really must have had a lot of heartburn!" {I didn't} His eyes are still blue though they appear to be changing as well. I'm curious to know what color they'll end up as I have green eyes and Steve has brown. My bet is on brown but I guess we'll find out!

Sleep: He's been a little better with his nighttime sleep habits. I usually get a three hour stretch when he first goes down for the night. After that he is awake every 1-2 hours to eat. During the day he's very unpredictable. Some days he takes a couple two hour long naps and other days he takes many 15 minute naps. I continue to cross my fingers that his sleeping gets better and more consistent. We recently bought a Rock & Play after hearing so many good things about them and he really does seem to love it! We're still working on a bedtime routine and I'm always willing to hear what worked for others so let me hear it! :)

Eating: Such a champ! During the day he nurses about every 1-2 hours...closer to the 2 hour mark if I have my way ;) His longest stretch between nursing is when he sleeps at night, for three hours. Other than that it's 1-2 hours between feedings around the clock. I've also been trying to pump a couple times a day to build up a stock...without much luck. The Zantac he was started on for reflux tastes pure horrible and with his frequent feedings I haven't been able to pump so he has been getting two bottles {one in the morning and one at night} of formula. The day I finally gave into that was a tough one for me. I had hopes of him being EBF for at least the first six months but I just can't keep up and the every hour feedings where really taking a toll on me. Giving him the two bottles gives me a little break and keeps him full slightly longer than breastfeeding.

Diapering: Still in size 1's! And boy do we go through the diapers! We've been sticking with Huggies as they really seem to work well for Garrett.

Clothing: We're officially in all 0-3 months and some 3-6 month clothes! I totally wish that sizing was consistent! His feet are much too large for some of the 0-3 month jammies and fit great in others! His 0-3 month jeans all seem to be large on him but other pants that size fit just fine.

Social:  Talk about melting my heart! Garrett sure knows how! He is such a smiley boy! It seems like he has learned SO much this mouth! He's cooing, making baby noises and has found his hands. He loves to follow noises and faces around {especially momma and daddy's!} He is getting more and more into looking at toys and kicking on his playmat! And the little boy does not like to sit still! He loves to be in motion! I broke out his Bumbo after a few days of hearing his angry screams after failed attempts to sit up! He loves to sit in that and look around!

Nicknames: Monkey, monkey butt, squirt, little man, big boy, little love <3

Likes: Baths! His face when he hears the water running cracks me up every time! He also loves to sit up or being "standing" on his legs. He loves to be in motion and loves for whomever is holding him to be in motion too. Bouncing on the yoga ball is one of his favorites! He loves starting at the ceiling fan and shelves on the wall. He also loves his swing, playmat and rock & play.

Dislikes: Having his hair dried, having his nails clipped and the hiccups.

Weekend Happins'

November 4, 2013

Monday, Monday, Monday how I do loathe thee. This weekend was a great one! But it went by about 300 times too quickly! Knowing that my maternity leave time is dwindling I'm soaking up the moments with my boys...and they're just going FAR too quickly.

So, what made this weekend so wonderful you might ask? One word-family. Saturday the hubs worked overtime so little man & I spent the morning cuddling on the couch which is by far my favorite past time as of late. We spent the afternoon then at my sister-in-laws celebrating the birthday of two of our nephews, Kyler and Owen and our brother-in-law, Nate. It's crazy how quickly our (five) nephews are growing up! Our oldest will be in high school next year and the youngest is three already! After stuffing our faces with birthday cake the hubs and I headed out for our second night away from little man.

Last weekend we went to a local haunted house that has 4 different attractions. two indoor haunted houses, a haunted woods, and a coffin/burial simulator. We paid to go through two attractions but after standing in line for an hour and a half to get into the first one we decided to avoid another hour and a half wait and just come back another time to do the second. We went with two of our closest friends, Adam and Carrie and Carrie's 12 year old son, Ethan. Last weekend we went through one of the haunted houses. This Saturday we decided to try the haunted woods. And let me tell you...freaking scared this girl! There's something about being in a dark woods with people jumping out a you, chasing you with chainsaws and wearing creepy costumes that makes ya tinkle on yourself a bit. Tmi? I'm usually not afraid of much but this organization does SUCH a great job! For those of you who are local-be sure to check it out for next year

Sunday hubs went with my dad (who is an electrician) to work on a wiring job that been keeping my dad busy. I headed out to my parents house to spend some time with my mom and brother. There's totally something about being curled up, cappi in hand on your parents couch that soothes the soul. My mom took Garrett for some Grammy time & let me doze while watching Wreck It Ralph with my siblings. We met up later in the day then with my dad, Steve and older sister to visit my grandmother. It was the first time she was meeting Garrett and while she basically had no clue who I was (or Garrett for that matter) due to her increasing Alzheimer's it was great to see her again and have her meet our little man. Sunday afternoon was spent hanging at my parents the while Steve & my dad went back to work.

Though our weekend wasn't filled with anything horribly exciting it was just perfect. Calming, quite and rejuvenating. Today Garrett had his two month appointment (though he'll be 10 weeks tomorrow) so I can finally type up his two month post for y'all. Let me tell you one thing right away...this momma is NOT a fan of shots! But we'll save that for his monthly recap post :)

I hope you all have a wonderful evening. We'll be spending it on the couch watching the Pack Attack crush the bears. You better believe it my friends.
