Self Love

March 5, 2018

The saying goes that you get wiser with age. I'm not sure I believe that though. I feel like so many of the things we "learn" as we age are already inside of us, sometimes tucked down deep. I feel like instead of getting "wiser" we just learn to become more in tune with ourselves, more in love with ourselves. This is something I'm slowly learning. Slowly forcing myself to accept. Others have always come before me. Their happiness. Their hopes. Their desires. Always before me. These days I'm really forcing myself to stand up for my own happiness, my own wants & desires. It's uncomfortable but I continue on. Here's some of my favorite ways to encourage self love:

  1. Make the things you love a priority. Write down five things that you love doing (reading, running, laying in bed drinking coffee while scrolling pinterest, whatever it is) and put them on your calendar, make them a non negotiable. I need MEGA work with this one still!

2. Take care of yourself. Self care is not optional, you must take care of yourself before you can care for others. Wash off your makeup & take your vitamins, you will feel like a brand new human.

3. Get a full night’s sleep & wake up early.

4. Eat your veggies but never say no to your favorite dessert. Putting good things into our bodies is important, but so is giving ourselves grace.

5. Be proactive about getting rid of negativity in your life. Unfollow social media accounts that evoke negative feelings or comparison & take breaks from spending time with people who make you feel anything but good. This one is another hard one for me. Cutting out time with those whom take pride in tearing me down, criticizing me and bringing more drama into my life...especially when they are people whom really should be closest & most caring towards me.

6. Be grateful. Make a list daily of five things you are thankful for, and tell the people in your life how thankful you are for them.

7. Get inspired! Listen to podcasts or ted talks, make a playlist of songs that give you good vibes and make a pinterest board full of inspiring quotes or images & look at it first thing in the morning while you sip your coffee. Refueling your idea bank is good for the soul!

8. Live in the moment. Easier said than done, especially if you are a dreamer (or a multitasker), but we must live in the moment to experience true happiness, especially if you have babies growing up right before your eyes...and we all know that this happens way to quickly!

9. PRAY. “The greatest tragedy in life is the prayers that go unanswered because they go unasked. Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers. God isn’t offended by your biggest dreams or boldest prayers, he is offended by anything less. ” – The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

10. Go out of your way to do something kind for someone else, as often as you can. Spread love!

What steps do you take in your daily life to cultivate happiness for yourself & your family?  Hope you all have had an amazing week ahead!! xo

Laundry Room Inspiration

March 3, 2018

I have a hard time leaving things "as is" when it comes to houses. I'm currently living in my second ever home after purchasing, completely renovating & selling the first. The plan when we moved in here about three years ago was to have this be our "forever home". That thought lasted about a year when I had the entire house revamped in my mind and needed a new challenge. You see, revamping in my mind is far easier than doing the actual revamp...especially when you work 50ish hours at your day job, run a business of 300+ people, teach classes and have two small children. Yeah, the actual reno gets tough.

We're diy-ers to the core so all of the work is completed with our very own hands (with the help of family and friends sometimes!). Needless, to say. Slowly, slowly this big ole' county home is (and will!) become what I dream of it! Currently our laundry room is underway and as always...a simple project always turns into more.

Here's some inspiration:

Light, bright & airy is my hope. Replacing the old, worn out carpet with tile and shiplap to cover the nasty wallpaper border (ick!). I'm getting excited to show you the final project when it's completed...in like two more years :)
